About IATL

About The Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning

iThe Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning (IATL) [an initative of The Nefertiti Project] is an educator professional development center that assesses, develops, and promotes learner-centered, 21st-century teaching techniques, curricula, and approaches across the Sub-Saharan African region. The Institute offers guidance for educators in going from being “The sage on the stage” to “The guide on the side”. Indeed, making this shift is not an option, it is our reality, and an ultimate necessity for 21st century relevance. The chalk-and-talk era, chew-and-pour days, are behind us.

Rote learning practices leave our youth under-prepared in these demanding times. Strengthening the critical thinking and problem-solving skills of our future generations is crucial to their adaptation to the future of work. Our educators’ beliefs and strategies in teaching are a core component of this goal.  Join us, together we will sharpen our skills.
